The Military Experts


Michael McCarthy is a Principal in Military Experts, LLC, a consulting firm that advises attorneys nationwide on the military issues involved in their cases. He is also the Managing Member of McCarthy Law Offices, LLC in Columbus, Ohio. Mike is an expert on matters relating to military compensation and the disability evaluation system. Mike’s training, education, and experience give him unique insight and a superior ability not only to assess the ground-truth of a situation and to provide sound counsel to his clients, but also the credibility to effectively testify to his findings. Mike began his professional life as an officer in the Marine Corps, spending most of his time in infantry and anti-terrorism units. He left active duty to attend law school and continues his military service today as a Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve. During his more than 25 years in uniform, Mike has served as an infantry unit leader, commanding at the company and battalion level, a Defense fellow to the Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, and on the staff of various combat arms units up to the Regimental level. He currently serves as the Officer-in-Charge of the Marine Detachment of the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command, an all-service command that supports Joint Task Forces around the world. Mike has been a member of Marine Corps promotion selection and command screening boards, as well as the Secretary of the Navy’s Marine Corps Reserve Policy Board. Mike has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Dayton, a Certificate in Legislative Studies from Georgetown University, a Master of Science degree from the Eisenhower School of the National Defense University, and a Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Mike is admitted to practice law in Ohio and the District of Columbia.
